Nakayoshi Friends — Rules

Nakayoshi Friends ~Renewal~

A 3–5 player must-follow trick-taking card game with a friendship mechanic.

Components

  • Animal cards: 12 cards per suit (values 1–12), one suit per player (3–5 suits used)
  • Tenshi (Angel) card: 1 special card (optional)
  • Akuma (Devil) card: 1 special card (optional)
  • Nakayoshi cards: Cards with values 3, 6, 9, or 12 (marked with "N" badge)

Setup

  1. Select suits equal to the number of players (Bear, Dog, Rabbit, Hamster, Cat).
  2. If specials are enabled: shuffle all number cards, remove 2 at random (face-down), then add Tenshi and Akuma.
  3. Shuffle and deal 12 cards to each player.
  4. The game lasts N rounds (N = number of players).

Pass Phase

Each round begins with passing. Select 3 cards to pass to the player on your left (clockwise).

Play Phase (Trick-Taking)

  1. Lead: The trick leader plays any card.
  2. Follow: Other players must follow the led suit if possible. If you cannot follow suit, you may play any card (including Tenshi or Akuma).
  3. Nakayoshi extra: When you play a Nakayoshi card (3, 6, 9, 12), you may optionally play one extra card — it must be a different suit and a smaller value than the Nakayoshi card. This extra card goes into the trick alongside your main card.
  4. Trick winner: The highest value card matching the led suit wins. Ties go to the later player.
    • If Akuma is in the trick: the lowest matching-suit card wins instead.
    • If the leader played Tenshi or Akuma (suitless), the leader wins by default.

Card Distribution After Trick

  • Cards matching the led suit are discarded (no penalty).
  • Cards of a different suit go face-down to the winner's penalty pile.
  • If Tenshi is in the trick: all different-suit cards are purified (discarded instead of going to penalty).
  • The winner collects any Tenshi/Akuma cards face-down.

5-Player Special: All Same Suit

If all 5 main cards in a trick are the same suit, each player must discard 1 card from their hand (no penalty).

Round End

The round ends when any player runs out of cards. Scoring:

SourcePoints
Collected penalty cards−(sum of card values)
Remaining hand (number cards)−(sum of card values)
Tenshi remaining in hand−20
Akuma remaining in hand−20
Collected Akuma−40
Collected Tenshi+40 (reduce penalty, minimum score 0 for the round)

Game End

After N rounds, the player with the highest score (closest to 0) wins.
