Ludo
Overview
Ludo is a classic board game for 2–4 players. Each player has 4 pieces that start in their base. The goal is to move all 4 pieces around the board and into your home column before your opponents.
Setup
- Each player starts with 4 pieces in their colored base (corner of the board).
- Players take turns clockwise. Player 1 (Red) goes first.
- The game can be played with 1 die (standard), 2 dice, or 3 dice (variants).
How to Play
On your turn:
- Roll the dice — Click the Roll button.
- Move a piece — Click a highlighted piece to move it.
With multiple dice, each die is used for a separate move. Click a die to select it, then click a piece to move with that die's value. You must use all dice if possible.
Entering the Board
- You must roll a 6 to move a piece from your base onto your start square.
- With multiple dice, any die showing 6 can be used to enter a piece.
- If you have no pieces on the board and no die shows 6, your turn is skipped.
Moving
- Move one piece forward by the number shown on the selected die.
- Pieces travel clockwise around the outer track, then up your home stretch to the center.
- You must land exactly on the home square — if you overshoot, you cannot move that piece.
Extra Turns
| Dice | Bonus condition | Penalty (3 in a row) |
|---|
| 1 die | Rolling a 6 | Three consecutive 6s |
| 2 dice | Doubles (both dice same) | Three consecutive doubles |
| 3 dice | Triples (all three dice same) | Three consecutive triples |
- Capturing — Landing on an opponent's piece (on an unsafe square) sends it back to their base and gives you an extra turn. This applies regardless of dice count.
- Penalty — If the bonus condition occurs three times in a row, your turn ends immediately.
Special Squares
- Start squares (▲) — Each player's entry point. Safe from capture.
- Star squares (★) — Safe squares where pieces cannot be captured.
Blocking
- If you have 2 or more pieces on the same square, they form a block.
- Opponents cannot pass through or land on a block.
Winning
The first player to move all 4 pieces into the home (center) wins the game.
Tips
- Getting pieces out of base early gives you more options.
- Use safe squares strategically to protect pieces from capture.
- Capturing opponents sets them back significantly — prioritize it when safe.
- With multiple dice, plan which die to use for each piece to maximize progress.
- Balance between advancing your lead piece and protecting others.
