Doubt — Rules

Doubt (BS / Cheat)

Overview

Doubt is a bluffing card game where players try to be the first to get rid of all their cards. Players take turns placing cards face-down, claiming they are a specific rank. Other players can call "Doubt" to challenge the claim.

Setup

  • Players: 3-6
  • Deck: Standard 52 cards
  • All cards are dealt evenly to players

How to Play

  1. The game cycles through ranks: A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A, 2, ...
  2. On your turn, select one or more cards from your hand and play them face-down
  3. You claim they are all the current rank — but you may be lying!
  4. After playing, all other players have a chance to call "Doubt" or pass

Doubt Resolution

  • If someone calls Doubt:
    • The played cards are revealed
    • If the player was lying (any card doesn't match the claimed rank) → the player picks up the entire pile
    • If the player was honest (all cards match) → the doubter picks up the entire pile
  • If everyone passes, the cards stay in the pile and play continues

Winning

The first player to empty their hand wins! But be careful — if you play your last cards and someone successfully doubts you, you pick up the pile and continue playing.

Variant: Multiple Cards

  • On (default): You can play any number of cards per turn
  • Off: You must play exactly one card per turn

Strategy Tips

  • Pay attention to what ranks have been played — if you hold many of the current rank, others are more likely to be bluffing
  • Bluff confidently with small plays (1 card) — they're harder to doubt
  • Call doubt when someone plays many cards of a rank you're holding
  • Keep track of the pile size — a larger pile means higher stakes for doubting
